The Inside Scoop on the Alchemy of
“ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE”
You want it. You know you do. So ask!
Why do we make it more difficult than it needs to be?
All the great religions talk about the Universal Principle of, “Ask and you shall receive.” It’s also fundamental to the Law of Attraction as well as the law of being human.
The concept is simple. Precise. The words are easy to understand intellectually.
Emotionally, not so much because our past conditioning comes into play. The Inner Critic of our adult mind fabricates the limiting ideas from our childhood all the time.
“Don’t be greedy.”
“You don’t deserve it.”
“She’s gonna’ say, “no.””
You gotta’ beg and plead to get what you want. So… “Please! Please! Please!”
“I don’t want to bother God. He’s busy enough as it is.”
Etcetera. You get my drift.
“Ask and You Shall Receive” is one of the Basic Principles of Unconditional Love that I talk about in the book, “How to Make the Most of Your Earth Experience (14 Principles for Living Unconditional Love).” It goes into greater detail about how Unconditional Love flows and manifests, and why precision is so important.
The problem with making the Principle of “ask and you shall receive” work in your favor can be twofold:
Maybe you don’t feel worthy enough to ask. So you don’t and cross your fingers for good luck, instead.
Or maybe you don’t know HOW to receive because you’ve never truly learned.
Most of us have been conditioned to limit both ends of the equation. Keep reading. Solutions are coming up.
The inside scoop on “ask and you shall receive” starts with a true story about a child.
You’ve probably witnessed something similar, no matter where in the world you live.
I’m at the frozen food section of the local mega-grocery store playing my own mental version of “ask and you shall receive”.
Italy is notorious for not having air conditioning in homes. Mine is no exception. Air conditioning does, however, exist in stores and supermarkets.
I’m here because when I asked for relief from a debilitating summer heat wave—I’m talking 100 degrees of hair frizzing humid heat—I got the big idea to go stand in front of the frozen food section of the grocery store. Sure, I know how to regulate my body heat using Divine Light Vibrations, but I latched onto the idea because it also gave me a good excuse to jump on my scooter for a quick change of scenery.
The cooling-off game is to casually “evaluate” five different ice cream options that are conveniently located behind five different doors. Each one offers up a new blast of cold air so my ask-and-you-shall-receive-coolness is going gangbusters. Plus, I haven’t incited any of the employees to come over and read me the riot act for throwing the refrigeration system into tilt.
I pull out a box of all-fruit popsicles and consider if they’re a viable way to bring some of that coolness home with me.
That’s when another example of “ask and you shall receive” plays itself out in all its drama.
A little girl with a head full of adorable curls fixes her round chocolate-brown eyes on my box of popsicles. Her eyes narrow in calculation.
“Mom.” She tugs at her Mother’s sleeve. “Can I have a popsicle?”
“No, honey, we need to get the shopping done.” Mom has an abstracted air to her as she reads the label on a bag of frozen vegetables.
“Pleeeeeeeease?????!!!!” Little Curly Head slaps her palms together, fingers pointing upwards like children learn in Sunday school. “I beg you!”
Mom ignores her daughter. She’s well aware of the other shoppers who are watching. Irritation flashes from some of their eyes, waiting for a six year-old tantrum to explode. Why can’t that mother keep her child in line? Others hold back smiles of amusement.
Out of courtesy to the mother, I put the box of popsicles back in the freezer compartment, and sidle away to another part of the freezer. I can always come back later and get it if I want.
Little Curly Head, on the other hand, pays no heed to the people watching. She doesn’t care. The popsicle is her goal, and by all Barbie Dolls holy, she wants it.
“Mooooooooommmmmmm!” She drags one word into one long whine lasting about three seconds. When that doesn’t work, she stamps her foot in irritation, and points to the freezer where her treat is staring back at her through a frosted window. “I. WANT. POPSICLE!”
“I said, ‘no’,” Mom hisses in a low voice that clearly says she means business. She puts the bag of vegetables in her cart, and reaches for a bag of potatoes.
Little Curly Head tries another tactic. She tilts her head and asks with an cherubic smile filled with hope, “Pretty please?”
Mom pretends not to hear.
Not yet daunted, Little Curly Head tries to get them for herself. They’re well beyond her reach.
Mom tries to divert her daughter’s attention by engaging her in choosing the next vegetable.
Little Curly Head will have none of it. She drops to the floor and belts out a wail. “Waaaahhhhhhhhh! Pooooopppppsicle!”
It’s obviously her go-to trick to get her way. It’s worked before. Maybe it’ll work again.
Mom gives a resigned sigh and puts a box of popsicles into their shopping cart. Little Curly Head beams. Victory is hers.
And a conditioned dynamic has been duly fed.
Like the little girl, we all learned tricks at an early age to get what we want from the powers-that-be.
What trick(s) did you learn as a child to get what you asked for?
Wait in anticipation with fingers crossed?
Take it and the heck with the consequences?
Throw a tantrum?
Do good deeds in prepayment to build up advance-equity?
Wait your turn and hope against all hope that your luck doesn’t run out before the goods do?
Whisper it and hope you were heard?
Not even ask because what was the use anyway?
Pretend it wasn’t important and ask with a careless shrug of your shoulders?
Grab it and run?
Logically present your case?
Fake giving love to lure one into saying yes?
Play one parent against the other?
Skirt around the issue and hope someone figured it out?
The list goes on for as long as creativity exists in young minds.
As we grow older, our tricks become more sophisticated. But they’re tricks just the same. It’s no wonder we have such a hard time wrapping our head around a concept so simple, and profound, as the Principle of “ask and you shall receive”. We’ve been spoon fed the ideas of being powerless and having to resort to tricks to get what we want.
The adult dynamics of “ask and you shall receive” and the flow of Divine Light in response.
The kicker to the Principle of “ask and receive” is you’ve got to believe on deep emotional levels that whatever you ask for is possible. And you deserve it. Otherwise, you’ll subconsciously slow the process down, or even block it in some way.
Doubt and faith: Two key elements intertwined with the Principle of “ask and you shall receive.”
The first time I really took the time to contemplate the alchemy dance between asking and receiving was an eye-opener. As it turned out, I didn’t have it down pat like I’d thought. Doubt and faith were in there rockin’ and rollin’ like they owned the dance floor.
“If I had faith the size of a grain of a mustard seed,” I thought with an uprising sensation of anticipation and hope, “I could manifest miracles. That’s what he said, so…”
“But, wait a minute!” My doubt interjected. “Exactly how big is a mustard seed grain?”
I did some research.
Those boogers are teensy. I mean smaller than a chocolate inspired pimple.
“That’s not so big,” I thought. “Surely I have more faith than that?”
Once I uncovered it from under all the doubts that had buried it away deep inside my Being, it turns out I did. In fact, my Divine Soul knew it all along.
So how’d I get to where doubt wasn’t a factor in my ask-and-you-shall-receive dance with Divine Light Vibrations?
It was something my Teacher of thirty years ago told me.
“Practice the Presence of God as being equally everywhere present. You’ll start to have experiences that confirm this. Those experiences will teach you trust, which is much stronger than faith. Plus, your concept of God will evolve as you do.”
So I set about gaining experience through a lot of trail and error.
My concept of God deepened, became richer. That vague emotional idea of an old man in the sky—the one sporting a long white beard and banging his staff as he passes judgment like a crotchety-on-the-outside, loving-on-the-inside, grandfather figure—turned into so much more.
Then, holy camoli, amazing things started happening! What I’d once called miracles, became every-day normal. I wrote about some of them in the book “How to Make the Most of Your Earth Experience (14 Principles for Living Unconditional Love)”.
Once you have enough experiences in your pocket, the remembering, trusting, and allowing it to unfold becomes an emotional habit.
That’s when you get into the real juicy parts of life here on earth.
If you’ve been reading my articles, you’ve heard me describe the Unconditional Love of Divine Light Vibrations before. There’s a whole FAQ page on the basics. Still, it bears repeating to help your ego intellect grasp it on deeper levels.
The more you understand it emotionally, the less work it takes to focus the flow of Unconditional Love to manifest in the direction you truly want.
Divine Light is made up of…
- An Infinite Intelligence that knows all things, because It created all things.
- An Omniscient (All-knowing) Wisdom, that knows how to manage all things for the highest good of all.
- An Omnipotent (All-Powerful) Unconditional Love that can manifest in any way, shape, or form.
Here’s how the alchemy of “ask and you shall receive” works.
The act of “asking” opens up a new channel in your ego-intellect that directs the flow of Unconditional Love that’s already moving through you, ready to be directed into something new and concrete.
The act of “receiving” is all about your ego-intellect allowing Divine Light to manifest as you asked. You need to start receiving the experience right from the get-go for it to flow smoothly.
It then creates a domino effect.
You allow yourself new thoughts…
which transmit new vibrations…
which attract new circumstances…
because you’re open to them.
Since your brain synapses—the old pathways of conditioned thought—start to rearrange themselves into new pathways, you see the opportunities when they arise. You say “yes” to new experiences, and new outcomes happen.
Remember, Divine Light is Infinite and Unconditional. You’re the one who puts conditions on It!
The deeper you go into personal illumination, the easier it is for your ego-intellect to live the memory of how profoundly simple this is.
The article, “Illumination, Divine Souls, and the Illusion of Duality (Separation)” goes into greater detail.
The book, “How to Make the Most of Your Earth Experience” has simple Look…Let…Love action steps all the way through to reawaken you to this.
“Ask and you shall receive” is profoundly simple.
But it’s not always easy if you’re not practiced at it.
For some, to ask is the hard part.
*If you feel reluctant to ask at all, that comes from your ego-intellect’s struggle with worthiness issues. Your Inner Critic becomes very vocal at this point.
The Spiritual Transformation eJournal in the online course “Meet the Infinite You—8 Step Master Roadmap to Personal Freedom” helps you uncover where you learned to hold yourself back. You’re a multi-layered person so don’t hesitate to revisit the Spiritual Transformation eJournal again and again. Each time you do, you’ll be more prepared to go deeper into your heart of hearts.
The article List of Limiting Beliefs to Transform into Emotional Freedom can also help shed more light on the subject.
*If you don’t have a clue about what you want, that comes from not listening within, and not releasing the past conditioning that’s fogging up your perceptions of possibility. The Basic Activation of Divine Light Vibrations Guided Meditation v2.0 will help you with this.
*If you keep changing what you ask for (not refining, but actually changing), that comes from not being clear on what you want.
Again, you’re not listening within. Do the Basic Activation of Divine Light Vibrations Guided Meditation v2.0 more often. Try to refine your intention to let new vibrations of Unconditional Love activate within your Being. The more refined the vibrations in you, the more refined your thoughts become. The more refined your thoughts, the easier it is for Divine Light to manifest through them. The fillable PDF EJournal “Get What You Want Because You Can” will help you stay on track.
*If you ask, and then totally forget what you asked for, you didn’t really mean it emotionally. It’s time to make a decision if you really want it, or not. Then, make peace with the decision.
For most, to receive is the hard part.
Divine Light is constant. Precise. Unfailing.
So if what you want isn’t manifesting, that could come from one of three things (or a combination of all).
1. Your ego-intellect’s worthiness issues.
It’s time to remember that you are a Divine Soul having a human experience. You’re MORE than worthy and that’s just your Inner Critic doing the talking.
2. Your ego-intellect’s trust issues.
If trust issues are in play, it’s a matter of practice. Trial and error. When you learned to walk as a baby, you had to learn to trust your legs could carry you… that you would keep your balance… and how the earth would be a constant that you could depend upon without fail. It’s through that same kind of trial and error that you relearn to consciously use your inherent power as an adult. Use the lesson my teacher taught me over thirty years ago.
3. Your ego-intellect and subconscious are battling it out with your wants, not-wants, and limiting beliefs.
Revisit steps 4 and 5 of the online course, “Meet the Infinite You (8 Step Master Program to Personal Freedom)” . To help free you from the weight of it, pay closer attention to the exercises in the workbook.
IF YOU RECOGNIZE IT AS TRUE…
Tweet it out.
Take it deeper. Make it personal.
To see where you’re holding back the full potential of the Principle, “Ask and you shall receive”…
Think about something you wanted and it didn’t manifest.
Then ask yourself these questions:
Why didn’t it happen? (Try not to blame outside circumstances. Look at your inner world, first.)
Was I not clear enough on asking for what I wanted?
Was there something else I wanted more?
What held me back from receiving it? (Clues for this answer can be found in the kinds of things your Inner Critic tells you on the subject.)
Do I believe it’s possible?
Was I willing to grow into it?
Once you have a better idea of the dynamics going on inside of you, it becomes easier to move forward with a clear action plan so you can ask AND receive with more abundance and freedom.
