Prosperity Consciousness & How I Went About Not Winning the Lottery

My prosperity consciousness was put to the test.

It came up so short, I lost two pounds from a lighter wallet.

This week, someone’s solution to her prosperity problems was to buy a lottery ticket. It inspired me to pull out an article about prosperity consciousness that I had on my previous blog.

It’s a true story. Happened to me back in 2004. It was before I understood fully that to manifest anything, you have to let it stream through you into outer manifestation. Still it’s a fun story, and there’s a moral to it.

Glenn on July 21st, 2009

Can you imagine buying a lottery ticket and winning €5,000,000.00?

Yes, that’s FIVE MILLION EUROS.  For those who think in dollars, at today’s exchange rate, that translates to $7,100,000.00.  If the zero’s make your head spin, that’s seven million, one hundred thousand dollars!  Tax free.

How many people dream of winning the lottery?  I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard someone say something on the order of, “If only I won the lottery…”

“Have you bought a ticket?” I usually ask.

Nine times out of ten, the answer is a sheepish, “No.”

Take a wild guess at how elevated is their prosperity consciousness?

Isn’t that amazing?  How can you dream about winning the lottery if you don’t even buy a ticket? That’s true for anything that you dream about having or doing. Without action, you’re going to get more of the same old same old. Even with action, if you’ve got a subconscious belief silently screaming the opposite, there’s no guarantee.

Today’s note: In my book “How to Make the Most of Your Earth Experience—14 Principles for Living Unconditional Love” , you can read about how and why we have exactly what we ask for and are willing to receive. That’s directly related to prosperity consciousness and just about everything else in life. I also wrote about how for every want, you can have a corresponding not-want fighting it out in your subconscious.←

Here’s the next amazing thing: The online Italian newspaper, La Repubblica.it, had a write up about how the winner of that very ticket NEVER SHOWED UP to collect his or her winnings!  Six months had passed, nobody showed up and, so, the winnings went to the state.

(If you’d like to double check me on this, here’s the link: http://www.repubblica.it/2009/07/sezioni/cronaca/lotteria-italia/lotteria-italia/lotteria-italia.html It’s written in Italian but, if you don’t speak Italian, you can always play with Google translator.)

When I read that, I had to ask: Why didn’t they show up to collect their winnings?  Did they buy the ticket not believing they would win? Did they even forget they bought it in the first place?

My friend who sent me the email included his theory of what happened: The owner of the ticket was so overcome with joy, he died of a heart attack.

It would’ve taken one huge booster shot of happy-adrenaline to make that Soul shoot of this earth experience as he were an adrenaline fueled rocket. I had to laugh at the image, even as I wondered at the why?

But the article went on to list other times where other tickets were never claimed so this obviously isn’t a one-off. At any rate, for some reason known only to the owners of these tickets, they weren’t willing to receive their prosperity.

Once again, I’m reminded of how our prosperity consciousness will either get us or feed us every time.

My own prosperity consciousness was called into question in 2004.  I thought I’d released all the limiting ones. Boy, was I wrong!

There was one tiny prickling prejudice left running around in my subconscious, and by all subconscious things holy, it wasn’t going to be ignored any longer.

Here’s how it went down.

Night time moon beams shine through the slats of my bedroom window.

“What do I want in my life, that I don’t already have?” I wonder.

I decide that I’m ready to win the lottery. Why not? It’d be easy cash, and I won’t have to exert much energy. I could do some of the things I’ve been dreaming of doing for a long time, but lack the immediate cash to do. Okay, I know it’s the lazy woman’s road to maybe-possible-riches-even-though-statistically-not, but what the hey.

I jump out of bed, happy as pie, convinced I’m going to win because I have a secret weapon: I know how to get messages from my dreams.

With a piece of paper in hand, I’m ready to write down a formal request for a dream that will give me the winning lottery numbers. I know that sounds dorky and very superstitious as only Italians know how to be. But you live anywhere long enough, you soak in some of the local culture.

The letter I write is similar to the technique I learned twenty years ago when I first started learning dream interpretations. In those days, I asked for a dream about a dynamic or something going on in my life. That was before I was listening directly to my Divine Soul, and I thought my Higher Self was the big Kahuna of our human makeup.

Dear Higher Self,

Please give me the winning lottery numbers through a dream tonight.

I will write them down as soon as I recognize that I am dreaming.

Thanking you in advance,

Glenn

I dutifully put my pen, paper, and small flashlight ready on the nightstand and go to sleep, fully expecting the numbers to come forth sometime before the break of dawn.

Somewhere in the middle of the night, I wake up recognizing that I’m dreaming of herding sheep with a fellow actor by the name of Nicola Caruso. I scribble the details of the dream while I’m still half asleep. There are forty seven sheep in one corral, sixteen in another field, sixty two in still another, and twelve sheep off on to the side.

“Okay.” I smile, pleased as punch with myself. “I’m going to be filthy rich in no time at all.”

As soon as I put my head back down on the pillow, I see another group of sheep.  Even as I’m counting them, I fumble for the pen in the dark, and write the last number on my pillow case before dropping back into a deep sleep.

The sun coming through the slats of the window yanks me out of dream-time. A flush of excitement follows. Yoo hoo! I have my numbers! This is going to work!

I just need to figure out which lottery to play them on since Italy has different ‘wheels’ to choose from. A fellow sheep herder had been very clear in saying I needed to ask Nicola where he was from. Since he has the letters N for Napoli and C for Cagliari in his name, I figure that has to be the key to choosing which of those two ‘wheels’ to play on.

Needless to say, calling Nicola and telling him the story takes precedence over everything else, including coffee.

“So Nicola,” I say. “Where are you from?”

“Glenn, you know I’m from Napoli.”

“Cool. If I win, I’ll give you ten percent for being the messenger in my dream.”

He laughed. “Okay, it’s a deal.”

Can’t get out the door fast enough. Buy the ticket. Go for coffee. Wait for that night’s drawing.

I lose.

What???

I don’t think to ask for clarification. The lady where I bought the ticket tells me you have to play the numbers three times in order to win so I buy another ticket… and lose.

I still feel philosophical, so I become the proud owner of a THIRD ticket after cheerily plunking down my money on the numbers from my dream, still playing in the Napoli lottery. She tells me that the winnings would be somewhere around E. 4,000,000,000 (four million euros) if I get four of the numbers right. Piece of cake!

The day of the third drawing is one of those beautiful days in Italy where the sky is blue and the air so clear you can see the Dolomites mountains in the distance.  Yes, this is going to be my day.  I’m convinced of it.

I go to the Tabacchaio to ask which numbers had won. Yes to the first one. Yes to the second one! Wow, yes to the third one! Holy camoli it was a yes to the fourth!  Yoo hoo!  All four of my numbers were drawn in the lottery!  And then… the kicker.

I COULDN’T BELIEVE IT!

They were drawn on the Cagliari lottery, not Napoli’s.

WHAT! HOW COULD THAT BE? Where’d I go wrong? My dream was very specific in telling me to ask Nicola Caruso where he was from.

I call him on the phone.

“Nicola, I thought you said you were from Napoli.”

“I am,” he said.

“Yes, but the winning ticket was on the Cagliari wheel. What do you have to do with Cagliari?  I mean, there’s a C in your name, but it’s not where you’re from. You’re from Napoli.”

There was a long silence on the other end of the phone before I heard him make a slight choking sound.

“Nicola, are you okay?”

“Oh, Glenn, I lost the lottery.”

“You and me both.”

“No, I lost ten percent of yours. I’m from Napoli because I grew up there.  Actually I was born in Cagliari.”

“Why didn’t you TELL me?”

“I didn’t think you’d ever win.”

I crack up laughing. So my dream was right. It was my interpretation of it that was just enough left of center to miss the lottery boat.

“Nicola, we didn’t lose. You can’t lose what you never had. ”

I didn’t win cash, but I DID WIN valuable insights to my subconscious beliefs about prosperity consciousness.

I took it into meditation and asked, “What is it in my worldview belief system that made me turn away the prosperity?”

What came out of the meditation was that I was operating under a strong prejudice that said, “Winning the lottery is BAD—you have to EARN your money for it to be valid.”

I can flat out tell you that I asked for transformation into illumination of that limiting worldview right away. What followed was the recognition that it was time to take the concept of prosperity consciousness to deeper levels, to know that God, or Divine Light, the Universe, or whatever you want to call it was my source and supply for everything.

Money and lotteries are man-made inventions.

The Infinite Intelligence, Omniscient Wisdom and Unconditional Ever-Present Omnipotent Love that I call Divine Light is so unconditional, it’ll move in whatever direction we ask It to.

I was shown, once again, that utilizing the Principles of Divine Light is like being given an unlimited ATM card that I can use however I want.

We are the only ones who limit infinity. Shoot, if we were all really awake, the concept of money would melt by the wayside and we’d all be manifesting our fish and loaves of bread directly into the physical without having to go around the mulberry bush with money. But, we’re not there yet. I’m not, at any rate.

Once I let that concept sink in on deeper levels, I slowly began to allow myself to live the dreams I’d been dreaming, but hadn’t allowed for lack of funds.

I started small and, once the ball got rolling, the doors just kept opening up.  You see, we really do have exactly what we ask for… and are willing to receive.

If I ever forget that in my growth, there’s always the pillow case to remind me. Yes, the one with the last number penned on it because it never came clean.

Some reminders like to stick around longer than others.
